Dallas City Performance Hall

An evening of magnificent music written for string orchestra awaits as principal musicians Margaret Fischer and Jack Unzicker take center stage, delivering gorgeous solos by Hanson and Hindemith. Schoenberg’s Transfigured Night is a romantic and hauntingly beautiful mainstay of the chamber repertoire. Upon first hearing, one might never suspect the composer’s penchant for the avant-garde (or his twelve-tone serialism to come), but make no mistake, this music was written by a man ready to go off the deep end.

A double bill of music and film, the ensemble first transports you to a foggy nighttime harbor (via Ingram Marshall’s sounds for the electro-acoustically inclined) then invites you to contemplate the ocean’s mysteries and perils through Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Kevin Puts’ sensitive sea settings. After intermission you can unwind watching Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid as the Dallas Chamber Symphony performs live-to-film.
