Join us for four days of fabulous performances at Caruth Auditorium at the Owen Arts Center, as 20 pianists from around the globe descend on Dallas to compete for a chance to perform with The Dallas Chamber Symphony. Enjoy an exciting mix of concerto and solo performances and observe master class workshops taught by renowned SMU and visiting faculty. You will be dazzled and inspired by the phenomenal talents this international event is attracting. Your subscription gives you a full access pass all events, and with open seating, you are welcome to come and go as you please.
This year’s jury includes Angela Cheng, Enrico Elisi and Ning An. Jury members, as well as Dr. Carol Leone (SMU piano faculty) and Boris Slutsky (guest visiting faculty), will teach master class workshops.
The Dallas International Piano Competition is presented in community partnership with Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts.
Day 1
Master Class with Dr. Carol Leone
Wednesday, March 15, 2017 — 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Four pianists are chosen from the field of candidates to participate in this Masterclass, taught by Dr. Carol Leone. Audiences are welcome to observe these public piano lessons, which focus on solo repertoire.
Day 2
Round 1 Quarterfinals
Thursday, March 16, 2017 — 9:00am to 6:00pm
Each of the 18 Quarterfinalists shall receive a maximum performance time of 20 minutes in Round 1. Contestants perform their repertoire for piano and orchestra, accompanied by a second pianist who performs the orchestral reduction. Round 1 results will be announced at around 6pm.

Day 3
Master Class with Ning An
Friday, March 17, 2017 — 1:00 to 2:30pm
Three pianists selected from among the applicants will participate in this master class workshop with Ning An. Candidates who have be pre-selected will perform, and students, music educators and general public audiences are welcome to observe these public piano lessons, which focus on solo repertoire.
Master Class with Angela Cheng
Friday, March 17, 2017 — 2:30 to 4:00pm
Three pianists selected from among the applicants will participate in this master class workshop with Angela Cheng. Candidates who have be pre-selected will perform, and students, music educators and general public audiences are welcome to observe these public piano lessons, which focus on solo repertoire.
Round 2 – Semifinals
Friday, March 17, 2017 — 5:00pm to 10:00pm
Each of the 9 Semifinalists shall perform a 30-minute recital of repertoire for piano solo. Round 2 results will be announced at 10pm.

Day 4
Master Class with Enrico Elisi
Saturday, March 18, 2017 — 1:00 to 2:30pm
Three pianists selected from among the applicants will participate in this master class workshop with Enrico Elisi. Candidates who have be pre-selected will perform, and students, music educators and general public audiences are welcome to observe these public piano lessons, which focus on solo repertoire.
Master Class with Boris Slutsky
Saturday, March 18, 2017 — 2:30 to 4:30pm
Four pianists selected from among the applicants will participate in this master class workshop with visiting faculty, Boris Slutsky. Candidates who have be pre-selected will perform, and students, music educators and general public audiences are welcome to observe these public piano lessons, which focus on solo repertoire.
Round 3 – Finals
Saturday, March 18, 2017 — 7:00 to 9:00pm
Each of the 3 finalists will perform a concerto or piece for piano & orchestra, accompanied by a second pianist who performs the orchestral reduction.

Yibing Zhang – Rachmaninoff, Piano Concerto No. 3 in D Minor
Christopher Goodpasture – Liszt, Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major
Award Ceremony & Winner’s Recital
The announcement of winners will be made in Caruth Auditorium at around 9:30 p.m. A short winners’ recital will follow the ceremony. Each of the winners of the Dallas International Piano Competition perform a brief solo encore at the conclusion of the ceremony.
