The debut concert of our 2013-14 season features the Dallas Chamber Symphony’s newest member, concertmaster Kazuhiro Takagi on Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in D Minor. You’ll be dazzled by Kazuhiro’s masterful and virtuosic music making on a rarely performed gem of the violin repertory. The orchestra also performs Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous Serenade for Strings and Arvo Pärt’s powerful Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten.

Join us as we celebrate composer Benjamin Britten’s centennial year with a performance of his beautiful Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings. The Dallas Chamber Symphony performs live to film, featuring a trilogy of classic comedies starring Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd. J.S. Bach’s familiar and beloved Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 rounds out this perfect evening for the whole family.

Enjoy a captivating live-to-film performance of the classic comedy, Sherlock Jr., starring Buster Keaton, in this exciting concert that also features Saint-Saens’ popular Carnival of the Animals — complete with dance. Joseph Schwantner’s powerful and evokative Distant Runes & Incantations rounds out the program. You’ll enjoy breathtaking solos throughout, from some of the Dallas Chamber Symphony’s finest musicians, as you are immersed in a myriad of familiar and otherworldly soundscapes.

The Dallas International Piano Competition is presented in celebration of the piano and its extensive repertoire, offering important performance opportunities to aspiring young performers from all over the world. Three rounds of competition take place before an internationally renowned jury panel, and prizes are awarded for the most outstanding performances. The event is ticketed, but admission is FREE, so come on down, bring the whole family, and watch it all live.
